Words from our

Ambassadors

Abiy Shimelis Goshu (30) is a community builder and social innovator specializing in sustainability and tech governance. He currently works as a Projects Communication Consultant at the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) based in Addis Ababa, facilitating continental project portfolios aimed at leveraging emerging technologies for sustainable development. Abiy is passionate about the environment and the human potential to create intergenerational and holistic livelihoods. He believes that grounding climate action requires us to ‘go back to nature and heritage’ so that we can rebuild communities that are nature-based, data-driven, and respectful of indigenous wisdom and heritage. He has been actively serving in the global climate justice movement as a Party Delegate for Ethiopia (including COP21, COP22, COP23 & COP28) and in various civil society movements focused on climate change adaptation and green jobs. He founded Addis Sustainable Life S.C as his first social enterprise focused on distributing biodegradable paper products while raising awareness of sustainability in Ethiopia. As a Creative Director in Development Communication, Abiy advocates for the powerful role of media, arts, and cultural heritage in co-creating progressive paradigms in peacebuilding and social development. He also serves as campaign manager for the Action4Peace 2030, a decade-long action initiative for sustainable peacebuilding. Abiy is a Resolution Project Fellow, One Young World Ambassador of Ethiopia, and a member of the Now Generation Forum (NGF) convened by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation.
